Present yourself:

I've been on and around boats and the sea all my life.

From a young age I have owned, maintained and sailed my own boats.

After leaving school and a short period as a Merchant Navy Cadet I went on to work as a deckhand on dive charter vessels in Scapa Flow and around the North East coast of Scotland. I later sailed as deckhand on sail training boats and a 70ft privately owned ex cruising lifeboat. After this work dried up I served as a steward with Northlink Ferries and after a change of government tender and job cuts was forced to work in a petrol station. Finnally I bit the bullet and sought work ashore, ending up a carpet fitter. I long to get back to sea!

I'm a good seaman; splicing and rope work, mooring and berthing practices, boat and outboard maintenance and cleaning, watch keeping and navigation.

I have been handling boats of all sizes for years, from motorboats, dinghies and sailing craft to an 80 ft ex tug.

My local sea school provided my nautical education, seamanship and small boatwork and coastal navigation.

The Orkney Yole Association elected me as skipper and the person responsible for the keeping of their beautiful old yole 'Lily'. I have sailed her to victory at many regattas over the years.
