Mercy Ships deploys hospital ships to transform lives and serve nations, and a crew of volunteer professionals from around the world makes our mission possible.

Our ships are state-of-the-art facilities that offer clean water, reliable electricity, and care centers. Because over 50% of the world’s population lives within 100 miles of the coast, we’re able to sail a modern hospital ship with a crew of 400 volunteers directly to people who lack access to safe, affordable medical care.

At any given time over its 40-year history, Mercy Ships has had between 1 and 3 ships in service. Currently, the Africa Mercy is the only Mercy Ship in service, but it represents greater capacity than all prior hospital ships combined. Since the deployment of the Africa Mercy, Mercy Ships has been committed to adding another ship to the fleet.

Africa Mercy Built 1980 in Denmark and converted to be a hospital ship in 2007, Weighing 16,572 tons, the Africa Mercy is the largest non-governmental hospital ship in the world. A Remarkable Hospital Ship Volunteers from over 50 nations have served onboard the Africa Mercy, which was acquired in 1999 and serving onboard the Africa Mercy is similar to living in a small city! Our crew consists of volunteers from many different backgrounds (over 56 nations worldwide), all coming together to meet a common goal — serving those in need in sub-Saharan Africa!

Currently serving in the Port of Dakar, Senegal; Summer 2020 Las Palmas Spain; August 2020 to Liberia
