3. COSCO – CHINA OCEAN SHIPPING COMPANY

The only non-European shipping group in the top five operating at the global level is COSCO. It was founded in 1961 in Shanghai, and is owned by the Chinese state. According to recent statistics, COSCO contains 1362 vessels operating with the ten biggest container ships of the world. They have been ranked number three in the capacity of 3.0 million TEU. 4. CMA – CGM

The fourth biggest shipping company in the world was founded in Beijing China, in 1961. It is the only shipping company outside of Europe with a whooping total capacity above 1 million TEU. The company maintains an employee base of an astounding 110,000 in 160 countries with USD 30.3 billion global revenue. 5. HAPAG – LLOYD

The American company was is standing in the top five biggest container companies in the world. It proudly sustains 239 modern ships, operating through 38 offices in 129 countries globally, and maintaining a workforce of over 13,000 employees. The company is transporting 12.0 million TEU through 600 ports in all continents of the world. It is a leading ocean carrier for Transatlantic, Middle East, Latin, and Intra-America. The company has stakes from the Qatar Investment Authority and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as well along with Klaus Michael, Hamburger Gesellschaft für Vermögens (HGV), and Beteiligungsmanagement. Evergreen Group is the 7th largest container shipping company in the world as it comprises of Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd., Italia Marittima S.p.A., Evergreen Marine (UK) Ltd., Evergreen Marine (Hong Kong) Ltd., and Evergreen Marine (Singapore) Pte Ltd. It was established in 1968 in Taiwan and by 2007 became a conglomerate of five companies. They operate in 80 countries through 190 ships and calls at 240 ports globally. 9. Hamburg Süd Group

Hamburg Süd Group is one of the oldest shipping company that was founded in 1871 to help trade between Argentina and Brazil to help Hamburg merchants. 10. Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation

The company was established in 1972 in Taiwan. It has become one of the Biggest container company in the world, operating 90 vessels with a 7.037-million-D.W.T / operating capacity of 622 thousand TEUs. They have won many prestigious awards such as International Ship and Port Facility Security Code (ISPS Code), ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management, and ISO 27001 Certificate for Information Security Management System. Their main focus is on vessels with container ships. The company emphasizes on core values such as “Teamwork, Innovation, Honesty, and Pragmatism.” Unlike many giant players, they have exclusive terminals rights of operation in the locations such as Keelung, Kaohsiung, and Taipei Harbors in Taiwan; Los Angeles and Tacoma in the United States of America; Antwerp in Belgium; and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
